NDSU Fan Site - BisonFans.com

Unofficial North Dakota State Bison Fan Web site & Social Network

Oh yeah. Almost forgot. It doesn't exist at NDSU in the eyes of many. Its only the 4th most popular sport forum on Bisonville behind Football, Mens Basketball, and Womens Basketball.

It is just frustrating as a fan of baseball in general to continually see it treated the way it has been by the administration for so long with little funding and zero attempt to promote the team and student athletes. From what I hear the funding is getting better but when you are only 2 years removed from the 3rd basketball assistant getting a pay raise that is more then what the head baseball coach is even making it is a little ridiculous. How quickly though when one year after another it produces a RedHawk or higher level player, that individual is recognized as having played at NDSU by anyone. This year alone there were 3 former NDSU players who saw playing time be it brief or for the season. But unfortunately when know one even knows there is a game going on because of lack of radio coverage or advertising they receive zero recognition and zero respect.

I definitely hear where you are coming from. Baseball has a huge upside, however I think the administration views basketball as a sport that if it takes off could have an unspecified thousands of dollars in new revenue. They could be investing in this sport in hopes that it generates more revenue and more exposure for the university, which in turn would make more money for sports like baseball. Also, it is a bit tough when the Bison baseball team is the second best team in the market. The same can not be said for football and basketball.

I hope that didn't rip your argument too bad. I too hope teams like baseball get more funding. There has been a great series of articles in the Minneapolis Star Tribune about the underfunding of even the Gophers baseball team.

I totally understand funding our considered major sports well like football and basketball. I feel they should. However, we had a situation where our baseball coach was not even paid on a full time basis. First year teachers in small school districts were getting paid more and we all know that is not very good pay around here. When Miles got the raise he asked for raises for his assistants across the board and got it. Instead of blanket raises it should be gradual and based on experience when you have some areas in other sports that are SO lacking that even a small amount is appreciated. Ex... $25k for #1 assistant, $15 K for #2 assistant, and $10k for #3 assistant. It is a much more responsible way of doing things and not even creating equality among programs but at least not creating ill will and resentment. Especially when one the #3 assistant has only 1 year of experience. The "restricted earnings" coach for football was even making more. On a side note which program has the best record so far against the Gophers since the transition... Baseball, 3-5 against a perennial top 3 in the Big 10. Definitely the most productive program for how much is spent on it.
