This list is a list of the best guards in college basketball. It in no way represents NBA potential.....

15. Senior Ben Woodside, North Dakota State (unranked)
He knew if he redshirted one year, Ben Woodside would have one chance to make the NCAA Tournament as a senior. The Bison have completed their entry period into Division I basketball and are eligible for the big dance for the first time. Woodside is doing his part to get NDSU dancing.

The senior guard is doing absolutely everything, from scoring 60 points in a game to recording double-doubles of 31 points and 10 assists. Woodside’s assist rate is third in the country, and he’s also third in the country in scoring average (26.9 ppg).

Hi Woody,

I finally got to see this team in person. My son and I went to the USC game. I was really impressed with the whole Bison team. The game truly could have swung either way. We missed 4 really crucial free throws near the end...think it was Wink & Woody...besides a couple of 3-point attempts with good looks.

I wanted the Bison to win badly, but it still was fun to see them play with an ultra-talented team like USC. This isn't a negative comment, but we couldn't match up with their freshman Williams, or .....(what's his name?). Can't remember their big rebounder's name right now. When one of those two guys got the ball close to the basket it was mostly easy pickings.

The teamwork & intensity of the Bison is off the chart. We were very close to the Bison bench and saw the huddle action. I've read criticisms of Saul's lack of emotion at games. I was impressed with his entire demeanor during the game. It was just right.

The USC crowd (though small) was VERY classy and respectful. There were no put-downs of our state or anything like that. Seen it before at Minnesota. Many USC fans stopped after the game to tell us how impressed they were...and that we had brought the biggest crowd to the Galen in a while...with the exception of UCLA. They mentioned that Pepperdine (just up the freeway) didn't match our crowd.

My son, being a contac wearer, commented when Woody lost his contac. He said, "dad, he won't be shooting very well for a while. His vision will be a little blurry."

That 'is' when the game swung the wrong way.

Even with the loss, it was a proud day for the Bison.

Thanks to the coaches & players. You guys deserve a chance to play in the Big Dance. You're good enough to be there.
